Terms of Use
Last updated: January 2025
The basics
lapse is a minimalist blogging platform. By using it, you agree to these terms. They're short and reasonable.
Your content
- You own everything you write. We claim no rights to your content.
- You're responsible for what you post.
- By posting, you confirm you have the right to publish that content.
Prohibited content
Don't post:
- Illegal content
- Spam, malware, or phishing
- Harassment, threats, or doxxing
- Content that infringes on others' rights
- Sexually explicit content involving minors
We reserve the right to remove content that violates these rules without notice.
The passphrase system
- Your passphrase is your only means of access. There is no recovery.
- Anyone who knows your passphrase has full control of your blog.
- Choose a strong passphrase. If someone guesses it, that's on you.
- We cannot help you recover a forgotten passphrase.
Automatic deletion
Blogs are permanently deleted after 30 days of inactivity (no new posts). This is intentional and non-negotiable. There is no recovery, no exceptions, no appeals. If you want permanence, this is not the platform for you.
No warranty
This service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee uptime, data preservation, or anything else. Back up your own content if it matters to you.
Limitation of liability
We're not liable for any damages arising from your use of this service, including but not limited to lost content, lost access, or disappointment when your blog gets deleted because you forgot to post.
Changes to terms
We may update these terms occasionally. Continued use of the platform means you accept any changes.
That's it
Be decent, don't post garbage, and remember: this platform is ephemeral by design. Enjoy it while it lasts.
